Dr. Elayne Pope: thank you so much for patiently answered some very strange questions about burning corpses from a complete (and completely strange) stranger.

Ligia Buzan & Elijah Zarwan: I don’t even know how to thank you enough for the language guidance and education. Thanks for helping me play in sandboxes which I don’t really know enough to play in! Any mistakes in languages in this novel are my fault, not theirs!

Debbie Notkin: Thank you for coming up with the title over tacos with me. I miss regular meals with you!

My life underwent a lot of changes during the writing and the quest to publish this book. At the time of publication, the people most immediately supporting me as a writer and human every day are Trent and Bethany and Christine. Thank you all for putting up with how weird and probably annoying it is to live with a writer!

Also, I’d like to thank Robert Lebling for gathering so much jinn information in one handy and enjoyably readable place: Legends of the Fire Spirits: Jinn and Genies from Arabia to Zanzibar is recommended to anyone who wants to know more about that fascinating race.

I recommend In the Shadows of Empires by Sir Jens to anyone who loves history.

I also need to thank all the people who have posted so much random information on the internet. From devoted Wikipedia editors (the unsung heroes of the internet, unless you chance to sit next to one in a pub, in which case their praise cannot be sung for long enough…) and also the somewhat crusty users of intravenous-drug-use forums, which are surprisingly handy sources of information when you are writing a book such as this.

Finally, to that guy in the bathroom at ManRay, who, after my first performance there, burst in on me in the ladies’ room cleaning up the blood (mostly fake—long story!) and delightedly announced, “You guys really are vampires!” Don’t stop believing, my man.
